MV. CALYPSO, with IMO number 9892559 and MMSI 574005120, has a deadweight tonnage (DWT) of 27,573 metric tons.
On May 23, 2025, we received a request regarding the condition of the grab on MV. CALYPSO, which was reported to be bent, cracked, and dented at all four corners. Following the vessel owner's instructions, we boarded the ship to conduct a survey and arranged manpower, tools, materials, and equipment to proceed with the grab repair.
We held a meeting with the ship's Chief Engineer (C/E) regarding the welding work, fire safety measures onboard, and the welding plan for the grab repair.
Subsequently, all damaged metal sections were completely cut out. New steel plates were installed, carefully ground, and beveled before ceramic welding materials were inserted into the areas requiring reinforcement. The welding work was carried out in accordance with technical procedures, followed by cleaning and surface grinding at the repaired areas.
After two days of continuous effort by our technicians and supervisors, along with the support of necessary equipment, the repair work was successfully completed to the satisfaction of both the vessel’s Captain and the shipowner.
